The Play For Hope 3rd Annual Memorial Tournament will be hosted on Saturday, May 9-10, 2019 in Huntington Beach, California. This tournament, previously known as the Mother's Day Classic was renamed in honor of and to benefit the Emma Pangelinan Memorial Foundation.
During the Inaugural event, special guests of HAWC, the Health and Wellness Consortium led by spokesperson and legendary HOF Coach Sue Enquist, spoke to athletes, parents and coaches in attendance with a call to "Take the Pledge" to LISTEN in 2018. All in attendance were then provided the opportunity to sign a Memorial Banner in recognition of this pledge and were offered information regarding mental health, safety and social media awareness.
These activities took place during the tournament and were groundbreaking in the sport of softball. Never before had coaches and organizers provided time out from practice and/or play in a live tournament to address social and emotional well-being through direct programming.
This year attendees of Play For Hope can expect an equally progressive platform!
Here is what coaches, athletes and parents can expect:
- Live Stream speakers so that teams and parents can participate wherever they are!
- Activities that are simple and targeted to bring teammates together.
- #SilentSoftball debuts in the United States! Fans will remain silent during the first inning of their team's first game following the Panel/Program.
In 2018, we asked everyone to Listen. This year, we will focus on sharing what we learned.
Coaches Checklist:
- We need every team to check in before their first game on Saturday as we have something to give you for each of your players.
- The tournament is going to be the first in the United States to implement #SilentSoftball. Athletes, Coaches, and Umpires are the ONLY people encouraged to be vocal during the first inning of their team's first game following the Panel/Program.
